20th Aug - vs Supercala

As with last year, the opportunity to play fragalistically, was too expealadocious to turn down!

A very new looking Eagles line up took the field for the first time, with Jarrod and Mark R and Tom 2 making their debuts. With no keeper yet added to the rosta, James Lucas volunteered to go in goal. With less than the required amount of Eagles players available, a few ringers were drafted in, so expectations for the match were not high.

In the first half, the Eagles play was patchy at best. We allowed supercala to run at us and with Nick playing up front, we hit balls over the top for him to run onto, rather than into his feet or chest/head, for which we had put him up front in the first place.

The defence of Jarrod, Mark, Dave and Ben was holding firm and although we were inviting pressure, they stood up to the challenge and didn’t really allow for any clear sights at goal.

Two goals would come in the first half from Supercala, both from long throws. For the first we stood off the centreforward and a long through took a slight flick into the top corner. The second goal followed shortly and a similar pattern. This time Mark whilst attempting to win the ball in the air, managed only to head the ball into the back of the net. Matt S was on the line in case of emergencies, but it would have been better had he been a little taller.

Supercala seemed delighted with their two goals while the Eagles were far from demoralised. Some good attacking breaks saw us create a few chances, but our composure in front of goal was lacking. Tom 2, who had only joined up with the squad for the first time 30 mins before kick off, was clearly lacking match practice. Nick toiled away up front and as the half drew to a close the Eagles were finding their feet.

The second half saw the Eagles as the dominant force. The battling and tackling from the back four and midfield saw us wrestle control of the match. The introduction of Adam Wilmott up front and Ben replacing Tom saw us looking much more dangerous. As we started to carve out chances, it looked only a matter of time before the Eagles reduced the deficit.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Our composure at times let us down, but the Supercala keeper should take praise for saving several goal bound attempts.

Apart from one unsavoury moment, when there biggest, fattest, stupidest, ugliest player kicked Ben in the back of the legs, Supercala were pretty sporting.

Congratulations to them for the victory, but the Eagles left the pitch knowing that there was a lot more to come from them!

With more scout reports due in and the transfer window still open, once our big guns are all available, we should start putting together the results that will see us start the season with all guns blazing.
